Muse reveals more Synth textures on "the 2nd Law"- Out 2 Oct 2012

Muse has a new Album out on October 2nd, 2012.
We've heard some of the tracks and are pleased to say that it is filled with a broad pallet of synth based textures. More synth textures than ever. They are not hiding back the fact that bands like Depeche Mode have influenced their previous sound designs w/ vocal styles giving a nod to Freddie Mercury (Queen). Now they have even embraced a bit of Dub-Step and various cutting edge synthesizer textures to paint this newest album release, "the 2nd law". The first single is a striped down synth track, sure to gain a positive response.

Chino Moreno Of The Deftones: ‘Depeche Mode Changed My Life’

September 5, 2012

During an exclusive interview with Noisecreep.com, Deftones frontman Chino Moreno discussed how electronic music legends Depeche Mode changed his life when he caught them on tour back in the early ‘90s.

“Lucky enough for me, my first concert was probably my favorite band to this day, Depeche Mode, on the Violator tour,” Moreno remembered when asked if a particular band or show had a major impact during his younger years. “It was at huge amphitheater so it was a really big show. I worked my way up to the front. It was loud, the lights, my favorite band – it was just larger than life.
“At the time, we hadn’t really started the band yet, but it was in my mind then,” Moreno continued. “But the theatrics and power of it really influenced. To me, the sound from their earliest records has always been special. They didn’t use typical sounds, they’d sample some strange percussion, unconventional instrumentation. I liked early hip-hop, but to me, this was so much more – the instrumentation, the dark lyrics – and all those things still make Depeche Mode my favorite band, even today.”

The Deftones have paid homage to that influence by covering Depeche Mode on more than one occasion. They’ve recorded versions of the songs “To Have And To Hold” (which features a raunchy and decidedly NSFW music video) and “The Sweetest Perfection.” They’ve also taken on early DM ballad “Somebody” during live shows.

The Deftones recently announced a November 13 release date for their new album, Koi No Yokan, followed by a string of U.S. shows that kick off on September 22 at the Epicenter Festival in Irvine, CA, with Stone Temple Pilots, Bush and more.

Laibach - Warm Leatherette

Hearing a cover of "Warm Leatherette" never seems to get old. After all, The Normal (aka Daniel Miller, founder of Mute Records) was so ahead of his time with his future sound. We hear loud echos of his sound in so many bands today. From modern SynthPop to EDM, Electro to minimal and let's not forget the post industrial sound lurking in Germany and in some parts of the UK. Somewhere, Daniel Miller is siting back with a big grin. :D

Recently, this song has been masterfully covered by Trent Reznor & friends with Peter Murphy on vocals.  Grace Jones took a stab at it back in the 80's. Here is another quite interesting version from none other than Laibach.

New Order to Tour North America for the First Time in Seven Years Trek kicks off on October 5th in San Francisco

For the first time in seven years, U.K. post-punk pioneers New Order will return to North America for a string of shows this October. The seven-date tour kicks off on October 5th at San Francisco's Oakland Fox Theatre and swings through Los Angeles, Denver, Dallas, New York City, Chicago and Toronto.

"We’ve been having such a great time together this year, playing shows all over Europe, and we're all really excited to be playing America again," says singer Bernard Sumner, referring to the group's recent festival dates and sold-out U.K. tour. "We have so many friends and fans there we can't wait to get back!"
The trek will also mark New Order's first stateside run without original bassist Peter Hook, who left the band in 2007 and was replaced by Tom Chapman.

The group's last stateside show was back in May 2005 at NYC's Hammerstein Ballroom. Their Toronto date marks the group's first concert in Canada since 2001.

VCMG 'Ssss' Album Review & video interview

* * * * (4 out of 5 synth star rating)

VCMG (A.K.A Vince Clarke & Martin L Gore) have released a brand new minimal techno album, aptly named 'Ssss'. The highly anticipated album was released on Mute records on March 2012. Ssss has been well received by the DJ community and by the fans of Depeche Mode (Martin's current band) and Erasure (Vince's current Band).

This is a ground breaking reunion since Vince Clarke has not collaborated with Martin Gore since leaving Depeche Mode more than 30 years ago. In 1980, Clarke actually formed Depeche Mode with Andy Fletcher (a current DM band member). Clarke was the chief songwriter for the first Depeche album, Speak & Spell. Martin L. Gore went onto become the main song writer after Clarke's departure from DM.

Both members seem to be having fun with their VCMG project. There have been 3 singles released thus far, featuring bonus remixes from some of the most prominent DJ's and producers in the industry. Remix contributions include Alvo Noto, Christoffer Berg, Byetone, Mathew Jonson and Terrace Fixmer to name a few.

The Clarke/Gore collaboration is a true celebration in the Synth/techno community since both both icons have influenced so many artists while paving the way for synth music for three decades.
